Different cost bearers
Depending on the identity card status, employment relationship and financial resources, different cost bearers come into play in the event of illness and accident. The different states are distinguished below:
No application for S-status (= tourist)
In the event of illness or accident, the host family bears the costs for treatment and medication (tier garant). The following link provides more information on how to apply.
Apply for or receive S-status
Depending on whether the person lives in a municipality or the federal asylum center, the municipality’s health insurance company or the State Secretariat for Migration bears the costs of illness and accidents (tier payant). There is no deductible and no deductible.
S-status with employment contract (limited financial resources)
If the financial resources are not sufficient to be able to live without social assistance, the health insurance company of the municipality bears the costs in the event of illness (tier payant). There is no deductible and no deductible. An accident is insured through the employer.
S-status with employment contract
If the financial resources are sufficient, the person's health insurance company pays the costs in the event of illness (tier payant). A deductible and deductible apply. An accident is insured through the employer.
